Josh Pollack, master of bringing all things East Coast to Denver (e.g. – Rosenberg’s Bagels, Famous Original J’s Pizza), has a new venture — Lou’s Italian Specialties. Ever the pioneer of underserved neighborhoods, this bustling little corner shop is a bit off the beaten path, located at the intersection of 34th St and North Downing, […]

Don’t let my petite frame fool you — I love to eat. Discovering great new places to eat is one of my favorite things to do. I’ve developed a pretty selective palate, after living in New York City for most of my adult life. It will come as no surprise to anyone that NYC has some of the best food in the entire planet at every price point — to $1 slices of pizza, to food trucks, to fine dining, my hometown has it all.
Now that I live in Denver, I’m so excited to discover the great meals that the great state of Colorado has to offer. I try to keep a no-meat policy, but I do make the occasional exception (usually when it comes to ramen, which always seems to have pork in it). Hopefully a few of my finds will become some of your new favorite places to eat!
Since 2017 I’ve been following the multi-million dollar development project on the corner of Chestnut and 20th with a great deal of curiosity. This was mainly due to the fact that the build of the new Hilton Garden Inn Union Station needed to incorporate the small land-marked brick building that existed on the plot. I […]
After 20 years of serving the Colorado community under the moniker Backcountry Delicatessen, co-founders Peter Boniface and David Pepin have put a new spin on their operation, recently rebranding their five store mini-chain to Yampa Sandwich Company. While gourmet takes on turkey, chicken, and roast beef sandwiches can be had, some of their most compelling […]
In my opinion, Dio Mio has only gotten better with time and has become one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Denver. Chef/owners Alex Figura and Spencer White opened their restaurant in the fall of 2016 and have since turned their debut dining experience into the ultimate punk rock pasta shop. With a pay at […]
There’s something very telling about Blackbelly‘s complete lack of fanfare. Situated along a busy stretch of Arapahoe Avenue, most cars simply whiz by the restaurant and its two simple black and white roadside signs, only pausing when the corner traffic light is red. The eatery, along with its daytime market, occupies two-thirds of a nondescript […]
Last year I ticked off another item from my bucket list: A visit to the Canadian Rockies. We visited Banff National Park in mid July, an extremely popular time of the year for the park because it’s typically the warmest month all year long (with highs in the 70Fs). Our home base during our visit […]
Denver’s Lola Coastal Mexican recently got a full physical and culinary rehaul, injecting new life into the 13-year-old Mexican restaurant on Boulder Street in LoHi.⠀⠀The new space features the classic maritime color combo of blue and white – emphasizing the coastal Baja vibe reflected in partner chef Javier Plascencia‘s new menu. Light wood, gold tones, […]

There’s a particular stretch of 17th Avenue, between Humboldt and Franklin, where you can find a cluster of excellent neighborhood restaurants (Olive & Finch, Humboldt Farm, Fish, Wine, etc.). In May of 2017, this two block stretch gained another killer dining option when Jason and Chris Wallenta opened up White Pie, a contemporary pizza restaurant. […]
UPDATE: 9/5/19: Call will temporarily close for rennovations for the fall/winter of 2019-2020. Last service will be on Sunday, September 29, 2019 and the restaurant is expected to reopen in the spring of 2020. We’ve finally made it through the (May) snow and hail, Denver! Time to slip on the shades, bask in the sun, […]
